She is a multifaceted individual who has worn numerous hats throughout the years. During her role as a TV talk show host on Bhutan Broadcasting Service during 2015-16, she championed positive youth narratives. Simultaneously, she lent her voice to the airwaves as a Radio Jockey for three impactful years on National Radio (Kuzoo FM).
Her commitment to empowering young minds took another form in 2018 when she assumed the role of the country coordinator for the Design For Change initiative in Bhutan. She conducted workshops and presentations in high schools, shedding light on topics such as safe sex, stress management, and redefining gender as part of the Gakoed Lamtoen Project initiated by NCWC and UNDP Bhutan. As the SheDecides Youth Leader for Bhutan, she advocated for bodily autonomy, standing with the global movement to ensure every girl and woman can make decisions about their own lives without being questioned. In 2020, she held the title of LEAD Mongolia Fellow for Bhutan.
Sonam Yangden aka Yangday La also graced the screen in Gangnam Girls and penned the film Yalama Awaozay, earning a nomination for Best Screenplay and Actress at Bhutan National Film Awards. Since 2020, Yangden and her team have dedicated themselves to crafting a book at aims at inspiring and reshaping mindset around gender roles and identity in Bhutan. The author’s first book is 108 from Bhutan.
