Shubnum Khan is South African author and artist with Indian heritage. Her first novel Onion Tears about three generations of Indians living in South Africa was shortlisted for the Penguin Prize for African writing. Her latest novel The Djinn Waits a Hundred Years was published in 2024 in South Africa, the US, the UK and India. It has received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal, selected as NPR’s best books for 2024 and is a New York Times Editors’ Choice. Her writings have appeared in The New York Times, McSweeneys Quarterly Concern, The Sunday Times, Marie Claire and Huffpost among others.
