Ranjit Rae retired from the Indian Foreign Service as Ambassador to Nepal. In his long career, he served in several positions including as Press Secretary to the President of India and Joint Secretary dealing with Nepal and Bhutan. He has also worked in the United Nations Peacekeeping Department in New York and at the UN Mission in Kosovo
Following retirement, he was appointed to the Commonwealth High Level Group on Governance. He is currently a member of the Peace Advisory Board of UNITAR, the United Nations Institute for Training and Development.
He has published a book Kathmandu Dilemma, Resetting India-Nepal Ties.
