He is a music composer, flute artiste and flute maker. He is the first Indian to perform ragas on 8-foot Contrabass Flute, which he renamed as ‘God’s Bansi’. He made three unique flutes – Mandra Bansuri, a U-shaped flute; Flutar, a combination of flute and electric guitar; and Divya Bansuri, an amplified illuminating flute with LED bulbs and in-built mic.
Pravin Godkhindi formed a fusion band Krishna in 1998, which has elements of Hindustani, Carnatic and Western music. He composed title songs and original sound tracks for over 40 TV serials and 15 feature films. He also composed music for several devotional albums, Bhaavageeth and dance dramas. He has performed several jugalbandi concerts with eminent maestros of Hindustani and Carnatic music. He has earned fame as a music arranger and flautist for the popular TV serial Yede Tumbi Haaduvenu featuring legendary Dr SP Balasubramanyam. He has directed and hosted award-winning music serial Raaga Ranjani on ETV Kannada channel. He has also acted in a TV serial Garva alongside Sri Ananth Nag, under the well-known director Sri Prakash Belawadi. He has composed background score for more than 1,000 episodes for several Kannada TV serials. He has performed 101 ragas in a YouTube series called Raagatainment.
His album Imaginings, in which he collaborated with Paul Adams and Elizabeth Geyer, was honoured with Zone Music Reporter award in USA in 2016. He has worked with several internationally-acclaimed fusion maestros including three-time Grammy winner Ricky Kej.
His awards include an honorary Doctorate from Tumkur University, Chowdiah Award from Academy of Music, Bengaluru; Kempegowda Award from BBMP, Bengaluru; Best Music Serial Award for Raaga Ranjani by Zee TV & Essel World; Aaryabhatta Award for the title song of TV Serial Malebillu; KIMA Award for title song of Radha Kalyana; Best Music Award for Tulu film Shree Narayanguruswamy by Karnataka Chalanachitra Rasikara Sangha, Bengaluru; among others. He has also been accorded titles Naadnidhi by Kalachetana, Gadag; Sur-Mani by Sur Singaar Samsad Mumbai at the age of 16 years; and Venu Gaana Maharaj by Trinity Music Association, Chennai.
His first Kannada novel Prahara – Haaduva Gadiyara was released in 2022. He has translated the same novel into English as Prahar – The Singing Clock.
