Oken Tayeng is an adventure enthusiast, travel guide, tour operator, and a trained paraglider. He founded Aborcountry Travels and Expeditions, which has created a number of trekking routes in remote areas of North East, especially Arunachal Pradesh. He is the founder of Siang Rush, an annual tourism promotion event, listed among 40 bespoke experiences made in India. He started Aborcountry River Camp, listed as one of the top six places to stay in North East India. His Yamne Abor Eco Lodge has hosted prominent persons including film star Amir Khan and Ram Madhav. He founded the HUMP World War II Museum at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
In 1999, he worked as Assistant Director and production consultant in the award-winning documentary In the Forest Hangs a Bridge, which documented making of a traditional 300-meter cane and bamboo bridge by Arunachal’s Adi tribal community. He won the Best Tour Operator award of Arunachal Tourism twice in 2017 and 2023, among several other awards. He is also a language aficionado with knowledge of over a dozen languages, including French, Japanese, Spanish and several dialects of Arunachal Pradesh.
