Inga Simpson is an Australian novelist and nature writer. Her latest release The Thinning (Hachette: 2024) has been longlisted for the Indie Award for Fiction and voted one of The Guardian’s 25 Best Australian Books of 2024. Her previous novel Willowman (Hachette: 2022) about the art of cricket bat making, was shortlisted for the Bookpeople Adult Fiction Book of the Year 2023 and voted one of the 100 Must-Read Australian Books. Her other titles include The Last Woman in the World, Mr Wigg, Nest, Where the Trees Were, and Understory: My Life With Trees, which have all been nominated for numerous awards, including the Miles Franklin Literary Award and the Stella Prize.
Inga has PhDs in creative writing and English literature, with her most recent thesis exploring the history of Australian nature writing. Her essays and short stories have been published in On this Ground: Best Australian Nature Writing, Griffith Review, Wonderground, Chicago Quarterly Review, Openbook, Review of Australian Fiction, Clues, Writing Queensland, and The Dictionary of Literary Biography.
