She is a visual artist, illustrator, editor, and curator. Since 2013, she has been organizing the Festival of Illustration and Literature Expanded (FILEXPANDIDO) in Salvador (Bahia, Brazil), promoting discussions on illustrated literature and visual culture. She has also created book covers and illustrations for international newspapers and magazines. She has a special interest in picture book, exploring, illustrating, and writing about this medium. Flávia has curated international illustration exhibitions, founded Movimento Contínuo publishing house, and actively participates in FLAMA collective creation project.
Embroidery is one of her primary experimental and research techniques. In 2021, she received the Green Island award from Nami Concours (South Korea) for her illustrations in the book O Adeus do Marujo (Pallas 2022, Tara Books 2024), which in 2023 received a Special Mention at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (Italy). In 2023, she established the First Filex Illustration and picture book Prize in Brazil.
