Firat Sunel is an ambassador, lawyer, and author. Born in Izmir, Turkey to a family with immigrant roots, his parents moved to Germany as Gastarbeitern when he was five years old. He studied Law at Istanbul University and did his post-graduation in Germany. As a diplomat, he served in several countries before becoming Consul General in Dusseldorf. In 2013, he was appointed as the first resident Turkish Ambassador in Asmara/Eritrea. In 2016, he returned to Ankara and became Director General for Legal Affairs.
He published four books, three of which are novels. His first novel In the Shade of the Weeping Willow inspired a TV series. The Lighthouse Family, which became a bestseller within a fortnight of publication in India, and Izmirli, My Last Love were published by Penguin Random House India.
His novels have been translated into over a dozen languages.
Fırat Sunel currently serves as Turkish Ambassador to India, Nepal and Bhutan.
