Carla Fernandes is an Angolan writer, translator and cultural producer. She is the creator of the podcast Rádio Afrolis, awarded by Google News Initiative 2022, and founder of Afrolis – Associação Cultural, two platforms dedicated to the narratives of black people living in Lisbon, Portugal. She is also the organiser and co-author of poetry collection Djidiu a Herança do Ouvido – Doze formas mais uma de se falar da experiência negra em Lisboa (2018). She has authored audio-drama It takes a village (2018) produced by German radio station Deutsche Welle where she worked for five years and trained in international journalism. She was the official translator in Portugal for Amanda Gorman’s The Hill We Climbed, The Song of Change and Call Us What We Carry. She also wrote a children’s book Uma Visita Inesperada (An Unexpected Visit) in 2022 and directed a documentary We Didn’t Come from Nowhere last year.
