He is an Indian novelist and short story writer who writes in Malayalam, with his works translated into eight languages, including English and Arabic. He has authored 25 books covering a wide range of themes in various genres, including short stories, novels, and memoirs, several of which are bestsellers. Goat Days, Jasmine Days, Al-Arabian Novel Factory, and Marquez, EMS, Hussain, and Others are his famous works. His awards include the JCB Prize for Literature, the Crossword Book Award, and the Kerala State Sahithya Academy Award. He lived in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 1992 to 2013 before returning to India where he pursued his writing.
