He is a writer and hailing from North East India. He is a professor of English in Tripura University. Over the years, Gupta has represented the NE and Tripura in literary fests held across the country. As a PG student of University of Hyderabad in 1994, wrote his first research article on Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye for the National Seminar on Toni Morrison. His literary works include Colourscapes: Theorising Colours, The Fragrant Joom Translation of Modern Kokborok Poetry to English; The Fragrant Joom Revisited: A Translation of Modern Kokborok Poetry to English; The Mystic Mountain: An Anthology of Tripura Bangla Poetry in English; The Golden Rendezvous; Phoenix et al. His areas of interest comprise Indian English Writing, NE Writing, culture and aesthetics, popular literature and culture, films and performance. A few of his significant documentaries are Vanaaj: In Search of Green; Doibee: An Encounter with the Gods; Fading Melodies: Ethnic Musical Instruments of Tripura and Tripura State Museum: A Curtain Raiser.
