Her literary career started as a journalist-cum-columnist in early 1990s. She has to her credit 12 novels, six short story collections, a travelogue and eight books on autobiographical essays and other topics. She has edited several books. Some of her works have been translated into some major Indian languages. Her first novel Hriday Ek Bigyapan has been translated into English by Penguin Random House as My Poems Are Not Your Ad Campaign. She has been conferred with Sahitya Akademi Award among several others. Currently, she is the editor of leading Assamese weekly Sadin and literary magazine Satsori. She is also an executive body member of Assam Publication Board constituted by Govt of Assam and an Executive member of Advisory Board (Assamese Language), Sahitya Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
