Sibananda Kakoti is an Assamese short story writer, playwright, editor, cine enthusiast and a novelist. He began his literary career in the 1970s with one-act play and radio plays, and by the 1990s, he was established as a major short story writer. Kakoti’s debut collection Amrityu Amrit (1996) won the Munin Borkataki Award, and his radio play “Duhsamay Samay” earned him the National Award for Radio Playwright in 1992.
His other acclaimed story of Jalasabit Sesh Saanj received the All India Katha Award. Kakoti has since nine short story collections, including one drama collection and a few editing anthologies. His latest novel Neti has brought readers’ critical attention. His Eleven Stories, a short story collection, has been translated into English.
