Banani Chakravarty teaches Assamese in Gauhati University. She has co-edited 3 volumes of G. N. Devy’s acclaimed People’s Linguistic Survey of India series: Asamar Bhasha, Languages of Assam and Assam ki Bhashayen. Her recent publication includes Being Modern: A Biography of Ananda Ram Dhekial Phookan, translated from Anandaram Dhekial Phukanar Jivan Charitra by Gunabhiram Barua, Itihasar Adi-path: Khowa-bowa, translated from Itihase Hatekhori: Khaoa-daoa by Anwesha Sengupta and Simantini Mukhopadhyay, (Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata, 2024) and Jetia Chapasal Nachil (Bandhab, 2024), a comprehensive anthology of medieval Assamese manuscripts, inscriptions, and historical documents.
