SUMMARY:"IS THERE SUCH A THING AS A TRUE STORY?"
DESCRIPTION:Concept note: What is truth? From Pontius Pilate to fake news\, people have grappled with this question for millennia. In the English-speaking world\, the book industry often implies the answer is easy\, dividing everything neatly into ‘fiction’ and ‘non-fiction’. But is it really as simple as that? Looking at a series of extracts from texts around the world with differing approaches to the issue of truth\, this ninety-minute workshop will explore whether there ever can be such a thing as a true story. \n  \nTestimonials: ‘Ann’s playful and expert guidance turned the pieces we read into mirrors\, showing our own assumptions and biases when encountering unfamiliar work or worlds\, and then freed us simply to wander and wonder through them. I thoroughly recommend the workshop for anyone interested in stories and words.’ \n  \n‘Ann flips the ‘rules’ of literary analysis and encourages us to embrace what we do not know\, to let go of everything familiar and remake our understanding of the world. Fun\, lively and thought-provoking\, her workshops encourage us not just to learn more about the world\, but also about how we relate to it.’

SUMMARY:"LAUGH IT OFF"
DESCRIPTION:WORKSHOP with Pankaj Thapa\nShowcase and commentary on the social relevance of cartoons in a digital age. \nThrough the medium of cartoons\, this 45 min interactive session takes a humourous perspective on our tech-savvy/tech-challenged society thereby highlighting the quirks and eccentricities that have infected us all both globally and indigenously. \nUsing humour\, the session attempts to take a peek at what our lifestyles and thought processes have evolved/mutated into\, not all of which can be laughed off\, unfortunately. It hopes to shine a light on social behaviour that can perhaps be remedied through self-awareness and a giggle. \nAt the very least\, it hopes to incite some laughs that may help release stress. \n  \nNOTE : \nParticipants should bring their own sketchpads and pens/pencils

SUMMARY:FLAMA!
DESCRIPTION:FLAMA is a space-time for co-creation and experimentation between illustrators Flávia Bomfim (Brazil) and Maguma (Spain). \nTitle: Forms are Born from Forms\nEmbracing the challenge of collective production and stretching the boundaries and limits of individual authorship\, we develop games of systematic and continuous interferences in drawings and graphic productions\, expanding and reinterpreting the ideas of style\, creativity\, authorship\, and genius. \nFor this workshop\, we propose to transfer the games\, methodologies\, techniques\, and discoveries that we have been collecting throughout our experiences to a collective activity. In the end\, we will produce a collection of posters together. \nWe will divide the activity-game into 3 stages: \n1- Form – exercises in sensitization\, attention\, capture\, and collection of forms. \n2- Connection / Syntax – making – together. Deconstruct and reconnect\, through the poetics of invention. \n3- Communication – not everything is magic in the field of semiotics. Tools that activate the statement in an image. \nWe will go through all the stages of a creative cycle: research – idea – creation – presentation \nMaterials: \nEach person must bring: pencil\, eraser\, scissors\, stylus (different colors)\, rule\, cutter. \nCollective Material: \n\n150ml bottle of acrylic per color (we need cyan\, yellow\, magenta and black). Example\nA4 paper (1 pack)\n7 A3 cutting pads\n2 sheets of A3 acetate per participant\n6 dishwashing pads\n1 tape for paper. Example\n2 packs of A3 paper 120 gr\n1 roll of paper for cleaning hands\n\nTimings \nSession 1 : March 20 : Flama: 2:30pm to 4:30pm \nSession 2 :: March 21: Flama: 10:30 am to 1:00 pm \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n

SUMMARY:An Incomprehension
DESCRIPTION:This is a 90-minute interactive session centered on exploring how focusing on the things we can’t explain in a text might enrich and broaden our understanding of reading\, culture and ourselves.\nThe main body of the workshop is built around turning the English literature comprehension exercise on its head. Instead of giving answers\, participants are invited to explore what questions\, problems or reactions examples of writing from unfamiliar traditions provoke or pose. \nThe featured extracts usually come from translated works drawn from a wide range of literatures underrepresented in anglophone publishing. The selection is designed to complement the interests and expertise of each audience\, with sessions so far including publishing students\, literature teachers\, translators\, writers\, librarians\, academics\, and general booklovers. \nAs we work through the material\, we explore the roles (both good and bad) that assumption and bias play in reading\, the idea of embracing discomfort and the opportunities that paying attention to the gaps in our understanding opens up. \n\nMar 19\nDUILF 2024\nASSAM\, INDIA\n\n\nAN INCOMPREHENSION WORKSHOP \nBY ANN MORGAN\nRegistration Fees : FREE\nLimited Seats : 30 Participants\nDuration : 90-minute interactive session\n\nRegister
